QUESTION:

Is herbal medicine safe?
ANSWER
Most herbal remedies are entirely safe, but as with all medicines, you
should take herbal medicines according to the instructions given to you by your practitioner.

QUESTION:

Can I take herbal medicines while I am taking medicines precrbed by my GP?
ANSWER
Medical Herbalists are trained to understand herb-drug interactions and so will take account of any medications you are taking when formulating your prescription. They will not ask you to stop or reduce any medications without the consent of your doctor.

However it is very important that you give the Herbalist full details of any medicines or supplements that you are taking.

  

QUESTION:

Is herbal medicine available on the NHS?
ANSWER
Not at present, though it may become more common as Statutory State Registration is introduced.


 

QUESTION:

What is the difference between western herbal medicine and chinese herbal medicine?
ANSWER
While both forms of herbal medicine are ancient therapies they are based on different understanding of how the body functions.

The principles underlying Western Herbal Medicine, which were first formulated by the ancient Greeks, are informed by western scientific principles. It is a holisitic practice using solely plant materials.

All branches of Chinese medicine are based on the principles of Qi and channels which relate to the internal organs. Chinese herbal medicine uses mineral and animal subtsances as wellas plants.

QUESTION:

Is Aromatherapy the same as Herbal Medicine ?
ANSWER
No. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils and other aromatic plant extracts to affect the mood or health of a patient. It is often combined with massage.

Herbal medicine is the use of a wide spectrum of medicines, all derived from plants, inlcuding essential oils in combined in oils, creams or medicines by mouth to treat a broad range of complaints.

 

QUESTION:

Is Homeopathy the same as Herbal Medicine?
ANSWER

Can herbal medicine be used to treat children?
ANSWER
Yes. Herbal medicine is perfectly safe to use with children.
